Security-oriented software should be written in safe languages.

Would it be worthwhile to do a security analysis on the i2pd src? Has any 3rd party done this (and posted public findings)?

Any good 4:3 laptops still available with 'modern' features? Or a good formfactor in general, the larger 16:9 are not ideal.

Is it possible to self host email for the purposes of receiving communications from employers/banks/governments/etc. without having to pay shekels to the domain mafia? I just want to receive, not send. I think it's wrong that Google, Yahoo, and other surveillance companies have sensitive details of our lives like occupation, address, names, income statements, etc.. A lot of places will not send paper communications anymore. They want it all digital. I do not trust anyone with these details. I want to self host, but I really do not want to pay tribute to the domain mafia if I can avoid it.

I've always wondered, could you just use the mail server's IP as the domain? peepeepoopoo@1.3.3.7?

It depends on who you want to receive email from…

The email address syntax is shit, and using the IP address alone won't work, it gives a syntax error.

You may be able to receive email at your_username @ your_isp's_assigned_network_hostname but I have not tested this.

If you're running your own DNS, you can assign a name to your email server and receive email on that, but the sender must also be either using your DNS or running their own DNS to point to your server. The service providers who run the various public email services are not going to use your self-hosted DNS or add an entry to their own DNS for your self-hosted SMTP, so only expect to receive email from people you know, who are themselves running their own email services.

TL;DR: You can self-host basically anything, but getting the big guys to play nice with it is a different story.

t. a guy who currently runs LAMP + DNS + SMTP and hosts a private wiki for the alt-right here on I2P.

while you should still already do some of the shit alphabet forces for other hosts that doesnt mean all of it (spam protection that isnt bullshit mostly)
since you only wanted to receive you could setup accounts on other providers that are accepted by the mafia that dont cuck imap/pop then use something to pull into your own imapd/popd store while deleting it from those hosts
that doesnt mean if its unencrypted its safe in this case or that its really deleted off their servers never assume that so were back to square one
if $freedomain or even $freesubdomain isnt tracked by a bl yet and isnt extremely cucked with what records you can push thats good freesubdomains are usually a good target there
but then we have "surveillance companies" surely you mean your isp right where is the encryption in that chain
but use tor no the exit will track it unless your fine with that
unless you can get "employers/banks/governments/etc" to adopt pgp/smime/etc or something less cancerous it isnt looking that nice
thought if you didnt care about the isp or an theoretical exits/entrances some modern form of mixion allows sending and receiving into the botnet thought that might be gone
forget those companies probably bought data over dragnet surveillance
